The world’s fourth-largest PC maker plans to roll out a cellphone-like new product in April that “could replace the major function of computers”, Liu said at a group interview in Beijing on the sideline of the annual Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference.

But he declined to specify the details of the new product.

Liu said last week that Lenovo had plans to make a product similar to <a href="http://www.batterycentury.com/apple-laptop-battery-c-69_80.html"target="_self" title="apple" >Apple’s latest iPad tablet.

Hewlett-Packard has filed a lawsuit to sue four companies based in Hong Kong and Taiwan for the defendants of patent infringement, according to various reports.

The suit, filed in a federal court in San Francisco, alleges the Asian companies also converted over 300,000 genuine <a href="http://www.batterycentury.com/hp-laptop-battery-c-69_84.html"target="_self" title="hp" >HP printheads from its facilities in Asia and sold these components globally as products manufactured by Hong Kong-based Mipo.

Other than Mipo, the defendants are Taiwan printer cartridge maker MicroJet Technology, Hong Kong-based PTC Holdings and SinoTime Technologies.

Separately, the Wall Street Journal said Monday that HP has accused MicroJet of infringing six of its patents in ink cartridges. MicroJet sold these under its own name or as part of generic or custom-ordered cartridges sold to other companies including Mipo and PTC. Mipo put products that were said to have infringed HP patents for sale online. The lawsuit also indicated that HP representatives purchased such products from Amazon between April and June last year.

The WSJ added that HP is seeking legal muscle to bar the defendants from selling the products it alleges to have infringed HP patents, as well as from using the Palo Alto company’s products. It is also seeking to claim triple the damages incurred as a result of the infringement, in addition to other monetary awards.

A MicroJet spokesperson told Bloomberg the company’s lawyers are looking into the situation, adding that HP had not contacted MicroJet prior to the suit. He confirmed that Mipo is a MicroJet customer, but said the company had no relations with SinoTime or PTC.

The San Diego-based company optimized its strategy game PoxNora for Facebook, which is the first of several it plans to create for the social media platform. The games will be based on existing entertainment products created, as well as completely new material.

PoxNora is based on the 2006 turn-based strategy/collectible card game PoxNora: Battlefield of the Immortals. SOE acquired the fantasy game and its website in 2009 and claims it has since expanded the title to more than 2.5 million registered accounts.

The Tokyo Stock Exchange said Monday it has started looking into <a href="http://www.batterycentury.com/fujitsu-laptop-battery-c-69_83.html"target="_self" title="fujitsu" >Fujitsu Ltd. explanation for the resignation of its former president.

It is normal for the exchange to launch an investigation if a listed company corrects previously disclosed information, a TSE spokeswoman said.

The bourse could take action if it judges that Fujitsu's earlier disclosure was problematic, depending on whether it was possible to fully provide correct information at the time of the disclosure, or whether it intentionally gave inaccurate or insufficient information, the spokeswoman added.

On March 5, Tokyo-based Fujitsu said Nozoe, 62, was contesting his resignation and it had received a letter from his lawyer asking for it to be reversed.

Nozoe asked for reinstatement because the reasons given for his resignation were false, the Asahi newspaper reported March 5. Executives at the company including senior adviser and former Chairman Naoyuki Akikusa pressed Nozoe to step down, saying that he wasn’t “appropriate” for the president’s job, Asahi said.

Fujitsu fell 4.3 percent to 559 yen as of 12:42 p.m. on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, the biggest decline since Sept. 25. The stock was the worst performer on the benchmark Nikkei 225 Stock Average, which added 1.7 percent.

Nozoe, who was sick at the time of his resignation, agreed to cite health reasons to avoid damaging the reputation of the company he headed, Fujitsu said on March 6. Nozoe agreed to step down as chief executive because he understood his actions put the company’s reputation at risk, not because of malpractice or illegal actions, according to the statement.

Nozoe became president in June 2008. In January, Fujitsu named Masami Yamamoto president. He will take over on April 1 from Chairman Michiyoshi Mazuka who temporarily assumed the role after Nozoe’s resignation.

The Zipel Massimo Zucchi, a side-by-side high-end fridge named after the Italian jeweler who designed the model, is intended to better-serve the female customer base, the company said in a press release.

The new model also comes with a built-in 10-inch touch screen that is capable of Internet surfing, and has eco-friendly features such as the “Smart Eco-system,” which drops the monthly electricity rate to 31.8 kWh, a near 10 percent saving in electricity bills, the company added.

Digital pictures and data, including recipes or family photos, may be sent back and forth from other wireless products to the fridge that can display such images on its screen, it added.

“Samsung will lead the luxury, premium refrigerator market with the release of this model, and grow into a top brand in the refrigerator market,” the company said in a statement.

The new WiFi-equipped model will be released on the global market later this month, Samsung said.

Samsung has been the best-selling brand in South Korea’s fridge market for 13 straight years, as it also claimed the top spot in the United States market in 2009, the company added.

<a href="http://www.batterycentury.com/hp-laptop-battery-c-69_84.html"target="_self" title="hp" >HP inaugurated its state-of-the-art customer service and technical support center in Conway.

HP plans to employ more than 1,000 employees in the $28 million facility. The company cited the Conway region’s high-quality workforce, as well as the state and local government’s interest in attracting the facility.

“HP is a company founded on innovation focused on driving growth and the highest levels of service in the world,” said Mark Hurd, HP chairman and chief executive officer. “HP demands great talent and we believe we found that in Conway.”

Governor Mike Beebe stated, “Arkansas is building a competitive 21st-century workforce, and HP is a prime example of the industries we are working to bring here. These are high-quality technology jobs that will keep qualified Arkansans in their home state, and draw companies to Arkansas, as well.”

HP chose Conway in part due to its close proximity to the universities and colleges in Central Arkansas. University recruiting has been a key component of HP’s human resources plan in the state.

“During my visit to HP earlier this year, I saw firsthand how the company is thriving in Conway and providing great opportunities for Arkansas workers,” said U.S. Senator Blanche Lincoln. “Our local and state leaders are to be commended for fighting to bring HP to Conway, and I will continue to fight for economic policies that spur job creation in our state.”

“HP has found an ideal home in Conway, and I know together the community and company will thrive,” added U.S. Senator Mark Pryor. “I will continue to do everything I can to help all businesses in Arkansas — large and small alike — compete and grow in today’s global economy.”

The Sturgis Road facility bolsters customer service for home, business and enterprise clients while providing employees a modern, interconnected environment to allow for workplace flexibility. Conway also will house some sales representatives working with large corporate accounts.

SunPower Corp said on Monday it has signed a supply agreement with <a href="http://www.batterycentury.com/toshiba-laptop-battery-c-69_89.html"target="_self" title="toshiba" >Toshiba Corp to supply the Japanese company with 32 megawatts of solar panels this year.

The deal, for which no financial details were released, will “form the cornerstone” of Toshiba’s new residential solar offering in Japan, SunPower said in a release.

SunPower is one of the world’s largest producers of the solar photovoltaic equipment that turns sunlight into electricity, and its modules are among the most efficient in the industry.

The Japanese solar market is expected to grow sharply in coming years because of the government’s aggressive targets to increase the growth of renewable energy sources by 2020.

SunPower nearly doubled production of its high-efficiency solar cells and panels from 2008 to 2009, with 2009 cell production of approximately 400 megawatts.

In 2010, the company intends to expand production further with newmanufacturing operations in Malaysia, the United States and Europe.

In a recent interview, <a href="http://www.batterycentury.com/sony-laptop-battery-c-69_88.html"target="_self" title="sony" >Sony Computer Entertainment America (SCEA) SVP of publisher relations admitted that the company’s slim and digital-download-only PSPgo device did “confuse” consumers and “the higher price point didn’t help matters”.

Speaking to online trade publication Industry Gamers, SCEA’s Rob Dyer tried to reiterate the reasoning behind the new game device. “We wanted to find a way to give the consumers what they want, so if they didn’t want to go to a retailer they could stay at home and download [content]. And we were hoping really to eliminate the piracy issue,” he said.

However, he also noted, “Did the PSPgo confuse [consumers]? Yeah, I think the higher price point didn’t help matters any either.” Dyer went on to say that Sony will do work to help better educate consumers about the handheld.

The device, which is smaller than previous PSP models, has no UMD slot, and is priced at a barrier-worthy $250, drew a lot of criticism from gaming consumers. Many simply did not understand what the value of the new device was.

However, Sony remains committed to the PSPgo. With its built-in 16GB of storage, Bluetooth compatibility, and the ability to create save states in any game, there are differentiating features that make it worth a second look.
